The Most Absurd Item on Gwyneth Paltrow's Gift List

As the holiday season approaches, children start to make their wishlists, adults begin to decorate their homes in anticipation of the festivities, and award-winning actor Gwyneth Paltrow queues up the most absurd gift guides imaginable. Paltrow is the founder of wellness and lifestyle brand Goop, which among other things, releases yearly gift guides featuring ornate, extremely out-of-touch gift suggestions. While we can't afford most of these items, it's fun to scroll through and imagine a life where we could make use of things like a portable studypod or a watch that's over $44,000. Keep reading for this year's most outrageous gift recommendations, and for some more modest suggestions, Here Are Oprah's Favorite Things of 2020 Under $50.

Paltrow designates a specific section of the Goop gift guide "The Most Ridiculous but Awesome" gifts. However, the star's most absurd suggestion wasn't found on that list. The "55 Best Gifts for Men" list features a personal robot that comes in at $3,200. While the novelty of having your own little R2-D2 might sound worth the price, you should be warned the bot doesn't do much. Goop describes it as "the robot sidekick he's always dreamed of."

The robot, called gita, only has one function—it carries your things. We're not totally sure, but this sounds a lot like a backpack to us. "Gita is a following robot. It carries your stuff so you can walk outdoors for local errands and trips instead of driving or riding in cars," the site reads. Once you pair yourself with gita, it senses your movement and follows you using two large wheels. The photos that demonstrate gita following its master give off major Black Mirror vibes.

If you live in a tiny apartment that could barely fit a Roomba, this gift is probably not for you. Either way, you could just as easily skip the robot and get a really large tote for the same effect.

Read on for some wonderfully strange gift suggestions from Paltrow and the Goop team's "Ridiculous but Awesome" list, and if you're feeling inspired, make sure you avoid The Worst Thing You Can Say When Giving a Gift.

This $299 item, PlantWave, uses your plants' electrical current to make music.
