It's natural to set timelines for yourself when it comes to major life milestones. You may expect to buy a home in your 20s, have children in your 30s, and retire in your 60s, for example. Well, on Friday, writer Anne Thériault tweeted out a few things very woman should be doing by the age of 35. And the list—which included developing "a library of sighs" and frequently asking, "Do I look like I'm made of money?"—has really resonated with people.
By the age of 35, every woman should:
– be walking around the house saying, "Why is every single light on? Do I look like I'm made of money? Open a curtain for once, will you?"
– wonder aloud why this room that she just tidied is messy again
– have developed a library of sighs— Anne Thériault (@anne_theriault) April 6, 2019
Her list got more than 7,000 retweets and 57,000 likes in the three days since it was originally posted. So it's safe to say that women in their 30s—particularly mothers—are very much relating to the tweet. Others have even been adding their own entries to the list, as well.
I will happily conduct an INSET* on this, as I am considered something of an expert (in my house)
*Will include:
tuts, sighs, swearing under breath, picking up discarded socks, shutting randomly open cupboard doors, turning off telly in empty rooms, asking rhetorical questions..— Lisa HW💋 (@Lisa1Lisa2Lisa) April 6, 2019
Maintaining air flow is a big thing for women in their 30s…

…as is having lengthy conversations with yourself.
Every day. In the grocery store. On public transit. While walking down the street.

But some of the tweets also appeal to women in their 30s whether or not they have children, like regretting not wearing enough sunscreen and never having enough time to read the stack of books on your bedside table…
-think back like a love lost to all the sunscreen I should have been wearing in my teens and twenties and try to emotionally prepare to look like the crypt keeper
-thinks "I would go out to twerk in club if I could go at like 4pm"
-set books by bed. never read books.— Maria Heinegg (@MariaHeinegg) April 7, 2019
Of course, there's also the realization that no man can ever bring you as much joy as a chubby puppy.
-don't even bother packing workout clothes for vacation
-comfortably accepts that no man will ever make me feel as a good as the feeling of petting an small, fat dog that's thrilled to see me
-watching TV in my hotel room is my favorite part of traveling— Maria Heinegg (@MariaHeinegg) April 7, 2019
And the notion of wanting to be invited to things, even though you will never go to any of them.
-want to be invited, but do NOT want to come to any event. Ever.

And finally, there's the coming to terms with the reality that you're turning into at least one of your parents.
Often said by my mum. Occasionally muttered by me while resisting saying it out loud because then I have become my mum.
